Latest Australian Fashion to Colour Jakarta Catwalks

Indonesian fashion lovers will have a unique preview of the latest spring/summer collections from some of Australia’s leading designers this month at a special Australian Fashion Parade in Jakarta.

The fashion show, starting at 2pm on Wednesday 12 December at Velvet Boutique in Plaza Indonesia, will feature the latest collections from talented Australian designers such as Eileen Kirby, Fleur Wood, Jayson Brunsdon, Mad Cortes, Marnie Skillings, Melanie Cutfield, Moss & Spy, Nevenka, Peter Lang, Vallen & Mint and Stellini.

Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy, Ms Louise Hand, said she was delighted by the level of interest in Australian high fashion following the inaugural Australian fashion parade in South Jakarta last month.

She said the latest show would feature a number of eye-catching designs that had been extremely well received at the recent Rosemount Australia Fashion Week in Sydney.

“Australia’s fashion industry has grown tremendously over the last decade. Some 60 Australian labels are currently exporting their designs to boutiques and department stores in Asia, Europe and the United States,” Ms Hand said.

“Many of young and talented designers selling their work in Jakarta have attracted international acclaim for their fresh and innovative designs and strong branding,” she said. “I am sure their latest collections will be well received in what is a highly discerning market for fashion here in Jakarta.”

Australian fashion has begun to develop a strong following in Indonesia, with boutique retailers in Jakarta stocking over 40 major Australian labels.

“My sense is that our unique design styles and innovative use of fabrics are very popular here. Indonesian fashion lovers seem to enjoy the fun, fresh and modern ideas and quality products now coming out of Australia,” Ms Hand said.

The Australian Fashion Show is put together by Velvet Boutique in collaboration with the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), ANZ Panin Bank and Harper's BAZAAR Indonesia.
