Flavours of Australia 2009

The Australian Embassy in partnership with two major supermarket chains in Jakarta and Surabaya is staging the 3rd Australian Food and Beverage promotion to be officially opened today at Hero Supermarket, Puri Indah Mall, by Australian Deputy Head of Mission Paul Robilliard.

Visitors to Hero and Sinar Supermarkets can sample more than 100 of Australia’s most popular food and beverage products in the month-long “Flavours of Australia” promotion with today’s opening featuring demonstrations by Chef Nchank from Diamantina.

“Australia’s food products are recognised around the world for their quality and high nutrition stemming from our natural advantages of clean air, water, soil and varied growing conditions,” said Mr Robilliard.

“Indonesians have high concerns for health and nutritional issues and this is why Australian products are very popular in Indonesia,” he said.

Australia’s multicultural society and innovative approach to food enable the production of some of the world’s best produce including dairy products, pasta, fresh meat, seafood products, fresh fruits and vegetables, olive oil and a full range of grocery lines.

Many Australian products also hold chemical and additive free status, as well as being halal certified.

Visitors will be able to witness cooking demonstrations by San Remo and take advantage of special discounts on Australian food and beverage products.

Australia’s merchandise trade to Indonesia in 2007/08 was A$3.9 billion with the food and beverage sector accounting for A$869 million.
