The Aussie Challenge Quiz

Students from SMA Santa Laurensia were declared the winners of the Aussie Challenge Quiz in the final game aired live on radio yesterday against SMAN 99.

The winning students, Christy Hong and Alberta Lowe, will receive a two-week English study tour and homestay package in Melbourne sponsored by an English language institution, Ability Education.

The Aussie Challenge is a collaborative project with 101.4 Trax FM with an on-air quiz featured during Trax FM’s educational and social program, Skuldesak which airs Monday to Friday between 2 and 4pm.

Since the competition’s launch on 26 October, two students from 16 schools around Jakarta have competed on their knowledge of Australian politics, geography, history, pop culture, sports, and on their skills in science, mathematics and English grammar.

The schools competing in The Aussie Challenge include, Santa Ursula, Saint Laurensia, Tirta Marta, Central School, SMAN 99, Madania, SMAN 81, Bakti Mulya 400, SMAN 8, SMAN 70, Al Azhar Pusat, Labschool Rawamangun, SMAN 4, SMAN 9, Al Azhar Kemang Pratama and Santa Theresia.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer, was present at the final and said the knowledge of these students about Australia shows how close we are as neighbours.

“The Australian Embassy is proud to support an initiative which offers students the experience of improving their English skills and exposure to life in Australia,” Farmer said.

The Aussie Challenge Quiz is an initiative under the Study in Australia 2010 campaign held by the Australian Education Centre, the only official source of information on Australian Education.
