Australian Alumni Researchers Directory Launched

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Bill Farmer AO, launched the Australian Alumni Researchers Directory at the Indonesian Ministry of National Education in Jakarta today.

The publication, which profiles nearly 250 Indonesians who have studied in Australia and now serve as academics and researchers throughout Indonesia, was published to acknowledge the expertise of Indonesian researchers, foster networking opportunities, and build upon the deepening ties between Australia and Indonesia.

“I am delighted to launch this Australian Alumni Researchers Directory today,” Mr Farmer said.

“We hope the directory will serve as a resource for the creation of new relationships between researchers, industry, knowledge-based partners and institutions interested in pursuing future research collaboration between Indonesia and Australia.” he said.

Every year, Indonesian alumni of Australian educational institutions continue to be recognised for their outstanding contributions to the advancement of knowledge in Indonesia through research.

The directory was launched at the official opening of the Joint Working Group Meeting between Australia and Indonesia on education and training.

The Australian delegation is led by Ms Di Weddell, Group Manager of the International Division at the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, who met with the leader of the Indonesian delegation, Prof Dr Ir Djoko Santoso, Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education.

Australia and Indonesia entered into a memorandum of understanding on education and training cooperation in 1992. The most recent memorandum was signed in Canberra on 10 November 2008.

The Australian Alumni Researchers Directory is available online at www.indonesia.embassy.gov.au/jakt/study.html and www.ozmate.org.
