Journalism Training on Professionalism and Multimedia

The Australian Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Paul Robilliard, and Chairman of the Indonesian Press Council, Professor Bagir Manan officially opened a two-day Indonesian media workshop in Jakarta today on professionalism and multimedia.

The training course is being held in cooperation with the Australian Centre for Independent Journalism, University of Technology, Sydney with more than 30 Indonesian participants attending, including journalists from Kupang, Yogyakarta, Medan, Bali, Lampung, Semarang, Padang and Jakarta.

“The media plays a crucial role in a democracy and I am pleased we are conducting this training with the Indonesian Press Council to support the development of a professional and an independent media, and provide opportunities to exchange experiences between Australian and Indonesian media practitioners,” Robilliard said.

The training will focus on the transition from print to digital media, the global trends in online journalism, as well as understanding and working in online journalism formats.

Australian trainer, Stephen Hutcheon, is one of Australia's most experienced and awarded online journalists and editors. He has played a key role in the development of one of Australia’s leading national online news site, smh.com.au, part of the Fairfax Digital portal and is currently the national online sections editor.

The Australian Centre for Independent Journalism was established in 1990. The Centre has offered continuing and professional education for journalists in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region at elementary through to advanced levels.
