Now open: Photography competition to celebrate Indonesia’s local elections

The Australian Government aid program, AusAID, invites Indonesian photo journalists to enter a photo competition designed to celebrate local elections.

Under the theme of “Local elections on camera”, print and online journalists can submit photos about local elections. Photographs must have been published in the last year.

Since 1999, Australia has supported local elections and three national elections. Australia works with the Indonesian National Election Commission (KPU) and civil society organisations to strengthen the management of elections and maintain public engagement in the electoral process.

“This competition is a great way to recognise Indonesia’s electoral process,” said the Australian Chargé D'affaires for Indonesia, Dr. David Engel.

“Well-run elections are important for any democracy. The Australian Government is proud to support Indonesia’s efforts to maintain high voter participation in the world’s third largest democracy,” added Dr Engel.

AusAID is organising this competition in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI).

Details of the competition can be found at the Australian Embassy Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/australianembassyjakarta or www.ajiindonesia.org.

Journalists will be competing for fantastic prizes including a MacBook Air computer, Ipad and an SLR camera. Submissions are due by 18 June 2012.
