Australian artists explore a changing world inVertigo

Asialink Arts and BLINDSIDE are pleased to present Vertigo as part of the 2014 Asialink Arts Touring Exhibition Program.

Taking its name from the Hitchcock film of the same name, Vertigo investigates the disorientating effects of a rapidly changing global environment.

Curated by Claire Anna Watson, Vertigo features work by ten contemporary Australian artists: Boe-lin Bastian, Cate Consandine, Simon Finn, Justine Khamara, Bonnie Lane, Kristin McIver, Kiron Robinson, Kate Shaw, Tania Smith and Alice Wormald. Presenting drawing, video, collage and sculptural works, the artists embrace diverse strategies in their attempt to make sense of the world around them.

Touring to venues in Indonesia, Taiwan and Korea, Vertigo will provide an opportunity for audiences in the region to engage in both the personal and universal themes explored within the artists’ practices, and gain an insight into contemporary Australian visual culture.

Director of Asialink Arts Lesley Alway says, ‘Reflecting on an accelerating world and its associated anxieties, Vertigo features a search for balance and a re-evaluation about priorities and possibilities for the future. At a time where we are connecting globally and searching for connections, dialogue about the way we live and envision the future has never been more important.’

Vertigo first opens in Indonesia at Galeri Soemardja- Bandung Institute of Technology, on March 20. It will then travel to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei, and then to POSCO Art Gallery in Seoul.

Interviews with the curator and artists are available on request.
