Media Release

29 July 2016

Modern Indonesian compositions featured alongside renowned classical works when celebrated Australian pianist Daniel Herscovitch played at Soehanna Hall, Energy Building in SCBD Jakarta, on Wednesday night.

The Melbourne-born pianist’s solo recital showcased a diverse repertoire including pieces by Indonesian composer Trisutji Kamal and piano maestro Ananda Sukarlan.

The Australian Embassy Jakarta presented the concert as part of its support for the prestigious Ananda Sukarlan Award (ASA) International Piano Competition.

Daniel’s performance marks the beginning of the biennial contest, which features talented young pianists from across Indonesia. Daniel will sit on the judging panel along with Spanish pianist Angela Lopez and Indonesia-born pianist Stephanie Neeman.

A new feature of this year’s event, which runs from 27-31 July and includes children as young as ten, is a section for disabled pianists.
