Overview

The Australian Embassy Jakarta is delighted to announce Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia 2016.

Many Indonesian films are cutting edge and the Indonesian film industry has experienced enormous growth since the ground breaking films of the early 2000s.

The Australian films being screened in the festival have been selected to showcase Australia’s artistic and cultural achievements in film. They will share with Indonesian audiences our sense of humour, warmth, passion, love of country and ingenuity. The films feature different aspects of Australia’s multicultural society, history, aspirations and creativity

Headlining the Festival are multi-award winning films The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet and Judy Davis, and Paper Planes, a story of hope and beating the odds. We have also included ‘Oddball’ an uplifting film about a mischievous dog and a horror film ‘Backtrack’.

The Indonesian component of the Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia 2016 makes for equally compelling viewing, we have included the internationally acclaimed creative work of Indonesians who are Australian alumni, The ‘Mo’ Brothers, Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel, with their film ‘Killers’ and Kamila Andini with her film ‘The Mirror Never Lies’. We are also showcasing the work of another internationally acclaimed director, Joko Anwar, and his film ‘Grave Torture’

We are pleased to have Joko Anwar together with Australian alumni, TV presenter Marissa Anita, as our film festival ambassadors for 2016.
