Indonesia’s future leaders awarded the Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships

Twenty-six of Indonesia’s future leaders have been awarded the 2011 Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships, with the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, hosting a reception this evening in their honour.

The Australian Ambassador congratulated the recipients on their success, “Indonesia remains the largest recipient of Australia Awards of any one country – testament to the leadership talent that exists here,” said Mr. Moriarty. “The recipients are part of an elite group who will not only contribute to Indonesia’s progress but also to support enduring ties between our two countries.”

The Australia Awards, aim to promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia and its neighbours. The Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships are regionally competitive and offer around 200 future leaders from across the Asia Pacific the opportunity to attain Masters or Doctoral qualifications and participate in leadership courses in Australia.

The 2011 Allison Sudradjat Awards, named in honour of the former head of the Australian aid program in Indonesia, have also been awarded to the top four Australian Leadership Awards recipient from Indonesia. The awardees will received an additional grant allowing them to take advantage of further opportunities to expand their knowledge and networks with Australia.

Australia’s commitment to the Australia Indonesia partnership will be further strengthened with the number of Australia Awards available to Indonesia increasing to up to 500 by 2014. For further information on the awards, please visit www.australiaawards.gov.au
