Inaugural Indonesia–Australia Automotive Conference

Australia’s first-ever delegation of automotive parts manufactures recognise there are significant possibilities for expanding trade between Australia and Indonesia in the auto sector.

The Federation of Automotive Products Manufacturers (FAPM), visiting Jakarta today, acknowledge the growing importance of Indonesia as a market and supplier in the region for sophisticated automotive products.

Indonesia has grown as a significant producer and consumer of sophisticated automotive products within the global automotive industry.

The delegation is led by Australia’s Automotive Industry Envoy, John Conomos.

“I am pleased to lead this automotive delegation, which I see as an important step towards closer collaboration between our respective automotive sectors,” says Mr Conomos.

“There are considerable opportunities for our respective industries to enhance cooperation based on complementary strengths,” he said.

At the Australia–Indonesia Automotive Conference key representatives from the Indonesian based automotive industry joined Australian counterparts to share information on industry trends and development and explore areas of potential commercial opportunity.

CEO of FAPM, Richard Reilly notes that “FAPM is keen to establish closer relationships with our Indonesian counterparts at GIAMM and will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Conference to lay the foundation for closer strategic relations between our industries.”

The focus of Australian automotive suppliers is on intelligent design and innovative technology solutions, including gaseous fuels, light-weighting and electrification, which offers much value to the rapidly expanding Indonesian market.

This MoU will aim to increase the exchange of relevant, market and technical information between our organisations to promote increased communication, trade and technological cooperation.
