Australian Ambassador Visits Medan

The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson will travel to Medan today to start his first official visit to North Sumatra.

During his three-day visit, Ambassador Grigson will meet political, religious and business leaders and host a function for Australian alumni.

The visit will focus on strengthening investment, education and people-to-people links.

Ambassador Grigson will also meet staff and students at Universitas Sumatera Utara and visit a local mosque and church.

“Medan is Indonesia’s largest city outside Java with a robust economy. It has an increasing number of opportunities for investment, particularly in the tourism and education sectors,” Ambassador Grigson said.

Ambassador Grigson also will visit the Australian Government funded sanitation program for North Sumatra Province and meet local entrepreneurs.

While in Medan, Ambassador Grigson will have the opportunity to indulge his passion for Indonesian coffee and taste the region’s famous blends.

“Both Australians and Indonesians enjoy their coffee and see it as an integral part of their day. North Sumatra is among Indonesia’s top coffee producers and I look forward to trying the coffee close to where it’s grown,” he said.
