Indonesian Weightlifters Reveal Their Secret Weapon to Win Olympic Medals (Australian Beef)

Media Release

3 May 2016

Indonesia’s Olympic weightlifting team will be powering their performance at the Rio Olympics with premium Australian beef, courtesy of a new partnership with a major Australian beef producer, Elders.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Paul Grigson, said Elder’s partnership with Indonesian weightlifting organisation Persatuan Angkat Besi, Angkat Berat dan Binaraga Seluruh Indonesia (PABBSI) will provide the athletes with large quantities of quality Australian beef in the lead-up to the Olympic Games in Rio, starting in August.

“Beef from Australian-bred and Indonesian-fed cattle is a potent source of iron, zinc and protein and will be an integral part of the athletes’ preparation to build resilience and strength,” Ambassador Grigson said.

Indonesia weightlifters have enjoyed great success in recent Olympic Games winning three silver and five bronze medals.

PABBSI Olympiad Team Manager Alamsyah Wijaya said the Australian beef provided by Elders is halal and will be a vital ingredient in the team’s Olympic strategy.

Elders Indonesia President Director, Endro Susilo said “Indonesians can feel confident that the beef meets the highest standards, particularly for athletes. We are proud of this partnership and look forward to supporting Indonesia’s weightlifters as they prepare for this year’s Olympics.”
