New Australian Reading Corner Opens at Bogor City Library and Gallery

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Ms Penny Williams PSM and Mayor of Bogor Dr Bima Arya Sugiarto today opened an Australian Reading Corner at the Bogor City Library and Gallery.

A collaboration between the Australian Embassy and the City of Bogor, the new Australian Reading Corner serves as a permanent space for the Bogor community to explore more than 300 books and educational materials on Australian literature, art, food, education, history, society and culture.

 “I’m delighted to launch an Australian Reading Corner at the Bogor City Library and Gallery. I hope the wide range of Australian books now available to the Bogor community provides new insights into Australian contemporary society and culture and inspires the next generation of readers and writers in Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Ms Penny Williams.

The opening ceremony was followed by a children’s storytime activity for Bogor-based read aloud communities, led by Indonesian children’s author and recipient of the 2nd Melbourne City of Literature Virtual Writer in Residence, Ms Imelda Naomi.

 Ambassador Williams and Mayor Bima also previewed a photo exhibtion celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Australian scholarships program in Indonesia. The ‘70 Years, 70 Faces: Australian Alumni in Indonesia’ photo exhibition features portraits of remarkable Australian alumni, including Dr Bima Arya Sugiarto. Mayor Bima is a proud Australian alumnus, holding a Masters from Monash University and a PhD from the Australian National University. The preview photo exhbition is on display at the Bogor City Library and Gallery now until 8 July, 2023.
