The Department of Education, Science and Training conducted a Young Researchers Forum at the Australian Embassy Jakarta today. The first of what is hoped to be an annual event, the Forum is designed to be a platform for young researchers from Australia and Indonesia to exchange ideas and expertise, to build networks and enhance linkages.
The speakers of the Forum are:
- Ms. Erika Alacs (topic: Wildlife Forensics and Trade Monitoring in Turtles)
- Dr. Suryadi Ismadji (topic: Production and Characterization of Activated Carbon from Agricultural Waste and Its Utilization for Waste Water Treatment)
- Mr. Donny Gunadi (topic: Home Entertainment via Broadband Infrastructure)
- Mr. Mike Hay (topic: Nonlinear Equations and Lax Pairs)
- Dr. Rintis Noviyanti (topic: Research on Malaria)
The objectives of the Forum are threefold:
- to increase awareness of the important roles that science, technology and innovation play in ensuring the well-being of our societies and the environmentally sustainable growth of our economies;
- to highlight the outstanding contributions to science and technology made young Australian and Indonesian researchers; and
- to encourage young people to consider continuing studies in science, mathematics and engineering, and to consider entry into science-based careers.
In line with increased interest in the academic and research areas of science and technology in Indonesia, Australia proudly encourages and supports efforts to promote science and innovation. Science and technology education are important for Australia’s future as an advanced society and economy, and Australia is focussing on improving the teaching of science, mathematics and technology in high schools and universities. An important challenge is to ensure that science remains relevant and engaging for students.
It is hoped that today’s presentations by leading young Australian and Indonesian researchers to be an excellent opportunity to explore the possibilities for future research in scientific and technological fields.
