Australian passport services
The Australian Embassy in Jakarta provides passport services to Australian citizens living in and visiting Indonesia.
Whether you need to renew your passport, apply for a passport for your child or replace a lost or stolen passport, you'll find information here about the application process, required documents and how to access our services.
Please read the information below before starting your application. Some applications can be submitted by mail, while others must be lodged in person by appointment.

Important: Allow at least six weeks to receive your new passport after payment has been taken. We recommend applying well before your passport expires or you plan to travel.

1. Renewing an adult passport (PC7)
You may be eligible to renew your adult Australian passport using the streamlined PC7 application.
Am I eligible?
To use the PC7 application, you must be aged 18 or older and your previous Australian passport must meet all of the following requirements:

It was issued when you were aged 16 or older.

It was issued on or after 1 January 2006.
-
It was issued with at least two years' validity.
-
It shows your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender.

It has not been reported lost, stolen or cancelled.
If you meet every requirement, you can complete your PC7 application online.

If you don't meet all the eligibility requirements, you will need to submit a full adult passport application in person at the Embassy. An appointment is required.
Can I apply by mail?
Yes. If you are eligible for a PC7 renewal but cannot attend an Australian Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia, you may submit your application by mail.
We recommend applying in person wherever possible. This allows our staff to check your application and supporting documents before accepting them, helping to avoid delays.
Before mailing your application, carefully follow the instructions below.
How to apply by mail
Step 1 – Complete your application
Complete the PC7 adult passport renewal application online through the Australian Passport Office.
Your completed application must be lodged within six months of being generated.
Step 2 – Print and sign your application
Print the completed application on plain white A4 paper, using black ink. Make sure the entire application is printed and no part of the page is cut off.
US Letter or Legal paper sizes are also accepted if the application is correctly scaled.
Sign the declaration using a black pen, within the white signature box. Do not use correction fluid or make alterations to your signature or the date.
All dates must be entered in DD/MM/YYYY format.
Step 3 – Prepare your passport photographs
Include two recent, identical colour passport photographs.
Your photographs must:

Have been taken within the past six months.

Meet the Australian Passport Office's photograph requirements.

Be free from ink marks or digital alterations.
-
Have your full name written on the back of one photograph.
Do not attach the photographs to your application form, as this may damage them.

Step 4 – Arrange payment
Complete the DFAT Credit Card Deduction Authority form and include it with your application.
Your credit card must be enabled for international transactions. Visa and Mastercard are accepted; American Express and Diners Club are not accepted.
Passport fees may change. Contact the Embassy to confirm the current fee before submitting your application.

Step 5 – Include a return envelope
Include a self-addressed A5 or A4 envelope so we can return your completed passport document.
Postage stamps are not required.
Step 6 – Check and post your application
Before posting, make sure you have included everything listed in the adult passport renewal checklist.
Do not send original documents, including your existing passport.
If your existing passport is damaged, contact the Embassy before sending your application.
Where to send your application
The Australian Embassy in Jakarta accepts mail-in adult PC7 applications from residents of the following regions:

Sumatra and Riau.

West Java and Yogyakarta.

Jakarta and the greater Jakarta region (Jabodetabek).
-
West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.
-
Papua, Papua Highlands, Central Papua and South Papua.

Your mail-in application checklist
Before sealing your envelope, check that you have included:

Completed and printed PC7 application form.

Signed declaration, correctly dated.

Two identical, recent colour passport photographs.
-
Completed credit card payment authorisation form.
-
Self-addressed A5 or A4 return envelope.
Do not include your existing passport or original supporting documents.

2. Child passport applications (PC8)
All child passport applications require a new application, including when a child's previous passport has expired.
Some eligible child applications can be submitted by mail. Others must be lodged in person.
Can I submit my child's application by mail?
You may submit a child passport application (PC8) by mail if all of the following apply:

Your child is aged 15 or younger.
-
Your child has previously held an Australian passport.
-
You and your child live outside Jakarta or have difficulty attending the Embassy in person.

We strongly encourage applicants to lodge in person wherever possible to avoid delays caused by postage or incomplete applications.
When must I apply in person?
You must make an appointment to lodge the following child applications:

First-time Australian passport applications for children.
-
Applications for children aged 16 or 17.
Child passport applications have additional requirements, including proof of Australian citizenship, identity documents, parental consent and a guarantor.

3. Lost or stolen passports
If your Australian passport has been lost or stolen in Indonesia, contact the Australian Embassy as soon as possible.
What should I do?

Report the loss or theft to the Australian Passport Office by following its lost and stolen passport instructions.

Contact the Australian Embassy in Jakarta during local business hours for assistance.

If your passport was stolen, report the theft to the Indonesian police and keep a copy of the police report.

Contact the Embassy to discuss applying for a replacement passport.
Important information
Once a passport has been reported lost or stolen, it is cancelled and cannot be used again, even if you subsequently find it.
You will need to apply for a new passport. You cannot use the streamlined adult PC7 renewal process to replace a lost or stolen passport.

4. Passport appointments
All in-person passport services at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta are available by appointment only.
Before booking, make sure you have:

Completed the appropriate passport application.

Checked the required supporting documents.

Prepared your passport photographs.

Reviewed the relevant application guidance.

You must have a confirmed appointment to enter the Embassy.

Arrive as close as possible to your scheduled appointment time.

Please do not bring friends or family members unless they are required to sign relevant documents.

Passport guarantors
Some passport applications require a guarantor to confirm the applicant's identity.
Guarantors must meet Australian Government requirements, including relevant identification and occupational criteria.

5. Processing times and passport collection
Allow at least six weeks to receive your new passport after payment has been taken.
Processing times may be longer if:

Your application is incomplete.
-
Your photographs do not meet Australian Passport Office requirements.
-
Information or supporting documents are missing.
-
Further checks are required.
Overseas passport applications are not eligible for Australian Priority or Fast Track processing.

6. Frequently asked questions
Does my Australian citizenship expire when my passport expires?
No. An expired passport does not affect your Australian citizenship. However, you may not be able to leave Indonesia without a valid passport.
Can I travel with less than six months remaining on my Australian passport?
If you are travelling to Australia, your Australian passport only needs to be valid on the day you arrive. If travelling to another country, check that country's entry requirements, as some destinations require at least six months' remaining validity.

Can I renew my child's passport?
No. Australian child passports cannot be renewed. You must submit a new child passport application each time.
Can I send my existing passport with my adult PC7 application?
No. Do not send your existing passport or any original documents with a mail-in PC7 application.
What if my passport is damaged?
Contact the Embassy before submitting a mail-in application. Additional steps may be required.
Can I apply if I am unable to attend the Embassy?
Some adult PC7 and eligible child PC8 applications can be submitted by mail. Contact us if you are unsure whether your circumstances qualify.
What if I need a passport urgently?
Contact the Embassy directly to explain your circumstances. We can advise you on the available options, including emergency travel documents where appropriate.
