Connect to Australia’s Future – Study in the Region
The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to undertake study, language training and internships in the region.
The New Colombo Plan involves a scholarship program for study of up to one year, language training and internships or mentorships, and as well as a flexible mobility program for both short and longer-term study, language study, internships, practicums and research. It encourages a two-way flow of students between Australia and the rest of our region, complementing the thousands of students from the region coming to Australia to study each year.
The New Colombo Plan aims to be transformational, deepening Australia's relationships in the region, both at the individual level and through expanding university, business and institutional links. This growing cohort of New Colombo Plan alumni is playing an increasingly important role in Australia's relationships with its neighbours and becoming an influential and diverse network of Australians with direct experience in the Indo-Pacific and strong professional and personal networks across our region.
The New Colombo Plan in Indonesia
As Australia’s closest and most important neighbour, Indonesia has consistently been one of the NCP’s most popular host locations. Since its inception in 2014, more than 12,000 students will have been supported to study and undertake internships in Indonesia, more than any other participating country.
Students who come to Indonesia have the opportunity to study in universities across the archipelago in disciplines such as public health, business and commercial law, animal studies, coastal marine geology and sustainable tourism. Other projects have included environment studies, science, education, arts and language, urban design, creative economy, agriculture and engineering.
