Australia Announces 7 Billion Rupiah For Asia Pacific Air Security Partnership

Australia will train 240 Indonesian aviation security officers to world class standard as part of the final phase of the Joint - Indonesia - Australian Aviation Security Project (IAAP), the Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Bill Farmer said today.

This announcement finalises Australia's largest ever aviation security capacity building activity in Indonesia, $1.1 million (7 billion rupiah).

Presenting certificates at a graduation ceremony, Ambassador Farmer said the concluding phase of the project will train the 240 Indonesian aviation security officers to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards in 12 courses over the next four weeks in Jakarta and Bali.

"Since November 2005 the Australian Government has been working closely with the Indonesian Government to strengthen aviation security to ensure Asia-Pacific skies are safe and secure for people who want to travel to and from the region," Ambassador Farmer said.

"We can only protect the Asia-Pacific Region from aviation security threats by working together as partners. This project has laid a strong foundation for future cooperation between Australia and Indonesia in aviation security.

"The Indonesian aviation security officers being trained over the next four weeks will take the total trained to date through the program to more than 300 officers.
"The twelve courses being offered over the next four weeks include training for airport security managers, supervisors and screeners, as well as aviation security auditors and inspectors. While most of the Indonesian officers will come from Denpasar Airport, others will also attend from Jakarta and Kupang airports," the Ambassador said.
