World-famous Australian Guitarist Brothers Perform in Jakarta
Internationally-renowned classical guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan will perform in Jakarta on 23 July at Erasmus Huis. Jakarta is the only Asian destination in the brothers’ 2007 world tour of Europe and Australia.
“We are delighted Slava and Leonard are visiting Jakarta. As world-famous musicians who have performed all over Australia and the world, this is a wonderful opportunity for Indonesian audiences to enjoy their work,” said Australian Ambassador Bill Farmer.
The brothers’ Jakarta performance is sponsored by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as part of the 2008 Australian International Cultural Council’s focus program in Indonesia.
Australian Foreign Minister Mr Downer announced in May 2007 Australia’s cultural diplomacy program in Indonesia would be expanded with an exciting program of events scheduled for 2008.
Slava was born in 1976 in Kazakhstan and immigrated with his family to Australia in 1981. He started learning and performing the guitar at a very young age. Leonard was born in 1985 in Australia and began studying the guitar with his father at the age of four.
In 1999 they began performing together in public and have since toured Australia and abroad many times. They have released duo albums and are members of Saffire, the Australian Guitar Quartet.
Slava Grigoryan has performed at the Brighton International Festival, Harrogate International Arts Festival, Dresden Misikfestpiel, Guitar Festival of Great Britain, GFA Festival in La Jolla, California, Wirral International Guitar Festival, AL Bustan Festival in Beirut, New Zealand Arts Festival and Sydney Festival.
He has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
