Work by noted young Indonesian visual artists on show in Sydney
Australia continues to embrace and enjoy both traditional and contemporary Indonesian art and culture. An exciting exhibition of new work by talented young Indonesian artists is currently on show at the University of Technology Sydney.
Entitled Sisa: re-use - Collaboration and cultural activism from Indonesia, the exhibition incorporates elements of visual art, folk art and design.
Sisa: re-use is part of the 2007 GANG Festival, a cross-cultural celebration of collaboration between contemporary Indonesian and Australian artists in central Sydney. GANG Festival is sponsored by the Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII), an Australian Government Initiative.
The exhibition features work not previously shown in Australia by Irennius Pungky, Duto Hardono, Indra Yanti, Arya Jalu, Aris Prabawa, Ade Darmawan and Rebecca Conroy, Bob Sick, Acongonyen, Toni Volunteero, Dodi Irwandi, Agus Budi Cahyono, S. Teddy D.
Four prominent artists’ collectives have also been included: Tanam Untuk Kehidupan (Salatiga), Taring Padi (Yogyakarta), Anakseribupulau (Randublatung) and the Belanak Art Community (Padang).
Sisa: re-use is on show from 6 November – 7 December 2007 at the University of Technology Sydney Gallery, Australia.
