Dairy Australia Committed to the Indonesian Market

Leading Australian dairy producers met with Indonesian food producers and dairy users on Monday 14 April in Jakarta to discuss the challenges in the world dairy market and the importance of retaining high quality dairy ingredients for food production.

The seminar, hosted by the peak body for the Australian dairy industry, Dairy Australia, has been warmly welcomed by Australia’s Senior Trade Commissioner, Mr Rod Morehouse.

“We are very pleased to have Dairy Australia in Indonesia this week to share information with Indonesian food producers and dairy users on the issues affecting this sector, as well as provide details on the significant technical and quality advances in Australia’s dairy industry,” Mr Morehouse said.

“Australia’s primary producers are committed to long term supply into Indonesia and the important contribution our high-quality agricultural inputs have for Indonesian food producers and consumers, particularly in ensuring food safety, is well known both in Australia and here in Jakarta,” he said.

Dairy Australia’s Manager of International Policy, Mr Phill Goode, said the two factors of tightening international supply and strong global demand had caused the current global shortage of dairy products and high prices.

“The cost of making dairy products has become linked to the competing use for stock feed to be converted into biofuels, while at the same time the high cost of soy beans and wheat for human consumption is limiting the grain available to feed dairy herds,” Mr Goode said.

Mr Good said, however, that many food manufacturers around the world were making conscious decisions to maintain the use of high quality dairy ingredients so as to continue to deliver the products their customers want.

“Food manufacturers know the use of the right ingredient will ensure the taste, quality and healthiness of the end product,” Mr Goode said.
