Inaugural Women in Policing Workshop Held at Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation
Thirty female Indonesian police officers attended a management and leadership skills workshop at the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) last week as part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to enhance the skills of the region’s police officers.
The workshop, held from 26 to 30 May in Semarang and facilitated by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), is the first in a series of workshops designed to meet particular needs of special interest groups in the Indonesia National Police (INP), including women.
It provided an opportunity to mentor officers and share experiences on different leadership approaches, the impact of gender and culture on management styles, the definition and impact of emotional intelligence, coaching, mentoring and networking.
The group brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the workshop, with a combined INP service among the participants of 678 years.
INP Senior Inspector Sri Rejeki said, “This training on management and leadership is very beneficial as we look to the future. The theories explained were very useful for self-development and I could combine several leadership models into my operational tasks everyday.”
The AFP’s Indonesia Manager, Bruce Hill, said the outcomes of the workshop were applicable across all aspects of policing and all crime types.
Participants took the opportunity to work through a series of United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime computer based training modules including human trafficking and search and seizure.
JCLEC, established in February 2004, is a joint initiative between the Australian and Indonesian Governments and is intended as a resource for the South-East Asian region in the fight against transnational crime, with a focus on counter-terrorism and coordination of a range of training programs, seminars and workshops.
This workshop was funded by the Danish Government.
