Award-winning Australian Singer Michelle Nicolle at JakJazz Festival 2008
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer welcomed Australian jazz singer Michelle Nicolle to Jakarta for the prestigious JakJazz Festival 2008.
“I am delighted to see more and more Australian musicians performing in Indonesia. Music is a universal language which strengthens the friendship and people to people links between our two countries,” Ambassador Farmer said.
Michelle will perform with her band, The Michelle Nicole Quartet, in Jakarta on 28 and 29 November.
The performances by The Michelle Nicolle Quartet at JakJazz 2008 are sponsored by the Australia-Indonesia Institute, an Australian Government initiative.
Over the past two decades, the Australia-Indonesia Institute has been a prominent supporter of bilateral cultural links, assisting and promoting activities that foster mutual understanding and friendship between Australia and Indonesia.
Award-winning jazz vocalist Michelle Nicolle started her musical career when she began studying the violin at the age of eight in the famous wine region, Barossa Valley, South Australia in the 1970s. Now based in Melbourne, she is celebrated as Australia's finest jazz singer.
At the 1998 Wangaratta International Jazz Festival Michelle won the prestigious National Jazz Award and also was the recipient of the Australian entertainment industry's Mo Award -Jazz Vocalist of the Year 2001, 2003 and 2004.
The Quartet has toured extensively throughout Australia and internationally, including gigs at The North Sea Jazz Festival.
