Young Australian Journalists to Discover Indonesian Stories Through Internships
Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer congratulated young Australian journalism students selected to participate in an internship program in Jakarta to learn more about Indonesia.
“Accurate and up-to-date reporting by a well-informed media plays a crucial role in supporting mutual understanding and friendship between our two countries,” the Ambassador said.
“Indonesia has a wealth of wonderful stories waiting to be discovered and shared,” he added.
The Ambassador was opening the annual Journalism Professional Practicum at Atmajaya University in Jakarta.
Thirty-three journalism students are undertaking the six-week program which is organised by the Australian Consortium for In-Country Studies in Indonesia (ACICIS).
After attending Indonesian language classes at Atmajaya University, the young students will hone their journalism skills as interns at Jakarta’s foremost media organisations.
Host media outlets include Tempo, MetroTV, RRI, Radio 68H, Jakarta Globe and The Jakarta Post.
The JPP is sponsored by the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations and the Australia-Indonesia Institute.
Over the past two decades, the Institute has fulfilled a unique and vital role in fostering friendship and understanding between Australia and Indonesia through projects in the arts, music, education, youth, civil society, interfaith, media and sport.
