Applications for Australia-Indonesia Youth Leadership Conference Now Open

Expressions of Interest are now open for Hearts and Minds, the Australia-Indonesia Youth Leadership Conference 2009.

Scheduled to be held in Yogyakarta on 1-9 June, the conference is an exciting opportunity for young people to develop their leadership and communication skills and foster networks with young Australian Muslims.

The program will empower young people to exercise leadership in their communities on inter-cultural tolerance and cooperation; as well as developing community cohesion, particularly in relief work and capacity-building.

Applications are invited from Indonesian and Australian citizens aged between 21 and 28 years of age who have an interest in further developing their community leadership skills and are committed to personal development through problem-solving and team building.

The eight-day program, which will be conducted at the Centre for Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University, will include a field trip to Mt Merapi.

Interested applicants should send a one-page CV; statement in English outlining why they would like to participate in the program and what leadership means to them; and, two references (include telephone and email address of referee).

Places are strictly limited. Airfares and accommodation are covered by the project (not including personal expenses). The deadline for applications is 30 March 2009.

For further information about the conference, including where to send applications, contact by email iabdullah03@ yahoo.com and [email protected].

Hearts and Minds is coordinated by FAIR, a Sydney-based community group, in partnership with the Centre for Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University.

The conference is funded by the Australia-Indonesia Institute, an Australian Government Initiative, which has been supporting the development of people-to-people links between Australia and Indonesia for two decades.
