Prominent Indonesian Women to Attend Leadership Program in Australia

A delegation of prominent Indonesian women recognised for their leadership qualities will depart for Australia this week to participate in a women’s leadership program from 18 to 21 May in Canberra.

The women, selected from a range of government departments and non-government organisations – including the Indonesian Business Women’s Association, Muslim Women’s Association and State Ministry of Women’s Empowerment – were guests of honour at a function hosted by Australian Deputy Head of Mission, Paul Robilliard, at the Australian Embassy today.

The delegation will meet with female members of parliament, community leaders, government officials and the Indonesian community in Australia.

Delegation leader Dr. Atifah Thaha, Head of Bureau Woman Empowerment Micro Small enterprise and Employment, said she was excited about the potential benefits of the program.

"This is an invaluable experience for all the women involved - it provides participants with an excellent opportunity to share their experiences and learn about women's empowerment, development and social security," said Dr. Thaha
One of the key objectives of the Women’s Leadership program is to share relevant Australian Government experiences in relation to women’s empowerment, the NGO sector and community development.

The program aims to demonstrate how NGOs and government work in partnership, and to share information and perspectives on the role of NGOs in both countries and how to increase the capacity of women’s NGOs.

"We are very keen to build greater people-to-people links between Indonesia and Australia in this sector and this program is a practical example of our commitment," said Mr Robilliard.
