Australian Ambassador farewells scholarship awardees to Australia
Today the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Bill Farmer, farewelled 158 Australian scholarship awardees as they finish their English language training and prepare to commence study in Australia.
“I wish all the awardees every success in their studies,” said Mr Farmer.
Postgraduate scholarships for Indonesians to study in Australia have been provided by the Australian Government for over 40 years.
Australia awards 300 scholarships annually for study in areas important to economic, social and community development in Indonesia.
AUD$40 million (Rp 300 billion) is invested each year to provide Indonesians the opportunity to study at Masters or Doctorate levels at Australian Universities. This large-scale and long-term investment makes Australia the largest provider of overseas scholarship of any international donor in Indonesia.
“Their experiences will be rich and rewarding and will equip them to play a significant role in contributing to the development of Indonesia and, in promoting common purpose and understanding between our two countries,” said Mr Farmer.
Areas of study are determined jointly by the Government of Australia and the Government of Indonesia and include the areas of economic management, good governance, health, education, democracy, justice, safety and peace.
