Australia supports small businesses in Yogyakarta and Central Java
Australia is supporting an exhibition in Yogyakarta today that will continue to help strengthen small businesses and improve the income and lives of those affected by the devastating 2006 earthquake.
Australia, in partnership with the Indonesian Government, is supporting The Java Grand Expo, in Ambarukmo Plaza, Yogyakarta.
The exhibition will link small and medium businesses, such as craft and food producers and microfinance organisations, with buyers, financial and government organisations and business services.
The exhibition also marks the completion of Australia’s $30 million Yogyakarta – Central Java Community Assistance Program, which helped rebuild the lives of those affected by the earthquake.
“It is encouraging to see tangible results of Australia’s work to help rebuild communities in Yogyakarta and Central Java following the devastating earthquake three years ago,” Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer said.
“Schools and health clinics are now rebuilt, people are more prepared for disasters, and businesses are thriving again. This exhibition will also help small and medium businesses continue their success into the future,” Mr Farmer said.
Australia’s support has assisted over 150,000 people affected by the Yogyakarta earthquake. This support has included building schools, health clinics, roads, bridges, irrigation systems and local traditional markets to help communities restore their lives.
The Java Grand Expo will take place in Ambarukmo Plaza, Yogyakarta, from 18 to 22 November, 2009.
