Winners Announced in Provoke Art Wave T-Shirt Design Competition

The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer, today announced the winners of the Provoke Art Wave T-Shirt Design Competition at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

1st place: Caesar Esaputra Sutrisna (SMA Labschool Kebayoran)
2nd place: Felicia (SPH Lippo Cikarang)
Runner up 1: Muhammad Ahmad Yunus (SMKN 26)
Runner up 2: Caecilia Sherina (Binus School)
Runner up 3: Clara Christine Wijaya (SMAK Sang Timur)
The ‘Most Favourite’: M. Aryl Zulfikar (SMAN 1 Depok)

The first and second place winners will have the opportunity to study English for five weeks at Insearch, Sydney in a joint sponsorship with the University of Technology (UTS), Sydney.

The competition, held in conjunction with Provoke! Magazine, was launched in October 2009 and invited students to submit t-shirt designs under the theme ‘To Live, Learn and Grow in Australia’. Entries were received from schools across greater Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta with creative talent surpassing expectations.

“I am thrilled to witness the creativity and talent showcased here today,” Mr Farmer said.

“Events like this are great opportunities for the young generation in Indonesia to demonstrate their skill and knowledge of Australia and the winners of this competition will be able to experience, firsthand, the creative and innovative culture of Australia,” he said.

Mr Aoura Lovenson Chandra, UTS alumna and owner and director of Provoke! Magazine - Jakarta’s first free teen publication that promotes creativity, diversity and thought provoking ideas - said there had been a huge response to the competition.

“We have received almost 14,000 votes to determine the Most Favourite design. Australia as a study destination in the field of design is still clearly the primary choice for Indonesian students,” Mr Chandra said.

The winners were selected from thirty designs chosen as finalists by a panel of judges from UTS, Australian Education Center and Provoke! magazine.

The thirty finalist designs were also posted online for SMS voting to determine the ‘Most Favourite’ design – with the winner of this category awarded a Lomo camera.
