Study in Australia 2010 Exhibition Opens and Winners of the Climate Change Short Movie Announced

The Study in Australia 2010 exhibition was officially opened in Jakarta today by the Indonesian State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs, Dr Andi Mallarangeng and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer, also announcing the winners of the Climate Change Short Movie Competition.

Ariel Ezra Bazaliel and Kevin Johanes of SMA Dian Harapan Daan Mogot won a five-day trip to Perth sponsored by Perth Education City with their film ‘Nature's Memory’.

Ambassador Farmer said he was impressed with the collective talent of Indonesian youth evidenced in the finalists’ movies centred on the theme, ‘Climate Change: What does it mean to you and your surroundings?’

The winners of the competition, held in partnership with Perth Education City, the Indonesian Nobel Foundation and The Climate Project Indonesia, were decided at a prior screening on 24 February requiring candidates to present before a panel of judges, including noted movie director Mr Jay Subiakto.

Ambassador Farmer welcomed this initiative which highlighted youth concerns and created awareness of new directions in education and industry as a result of the global issue of climate change and the need for new skills from future graduates.

Mr Mike Ryan of Perth Education City said, “Perth universities are currently researching alternative energy technologies and even developing bachelor degrees in climate change.”

The Study in Australia exhibition takes place in Jakarta on 27 and 28 February, and will visit Bandung on 1 March, Medan on 3 March and Surabaya on 6 March with participation by 37 education institutions across Australia. The exhibition will also feature a seminar on Green Jobs on Sunday 28 February.

Students and families considering any avenue of study in Australia are encouraged to attend and benefit from direct access to credible sources of information, and to bring their most recent transcripts and academic records for application purposes.

This is the official education exhibition on Study in Australia organised by the Australian Embassy, supported by Perth Education City, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Qantas.
