OzMine 2010 Exhibition and Conference

Australia’s mining expertise will be on show at OZMINE 2010, Austrade’s largest international mining exhibition and conference in Asia, which will be held in Jakarta at the Shangri La Hotel on 30 – 31 March 2010.

The exhibition will be officially opened by Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Bill Farmer, with senior Indonesian representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources expected to provide industry updates and address Indonesia’s new Mining Law which will come into effect from 1 May 2010.

Other presenters at the conference include Professor David Laurence from the Australian Centre for Sustainable Mining Practices at the prestigious University of New South Wales and Mr Noke Kiroyan, former President Director of Rio Tinto Indonesia and PT Newmont Pacific Nusantara.

“This year’s conference theme is ‘The Future of Sustainable Mining in Indonesia’, an important topic for industry not only in Indonesia but the world over,” Austrade’s Senior Trade Commissioner for Indonesia, Rod Morehouse announced.

“Over 75 Australian mining companies will participate in the exhibition, showcasing the latest in mining equipment, technology, services and consumables from the world leading Australian mining sector” said Mr Morehouse.

Australia’s mining industry is the third largest in the world. Approximately 60 per cent of the world’s mines use mining software that was developed in Australia. Many of the 400 Australian companies operating in Indonesia are also involved in the Indonesian mining sector.

Australian Ambassador Bill Farmer said the mining sector represents a vital industry for both Australia and Indonesia and both countries could benefit from a continued close working relationship and open dialogue in this sector.

“Australians are looking at increasing their investment in the Indonesian mining sector, and they can provide real benefits, especially in key areas like environmentally sustainable mining,” said Ambassador Farmer.

OZMINE 2010 is expected to draw more than 2,000 trade visitors to the exhibition and conference including visitors from major mining companies across the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The exhibition is free to industry and is open from 9am to 5pm on 30 and 31 March 2010. The conference is by invitation and pre-registration only.
