International Students Positive about Australian Education

Newly released research from Australian Education International (AEI), the international arm of the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), shows international students’ level of satisfaction with their living and study experiences in Australia remains high.

Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty welcomed the results of the National Survey of International Students Studying in Australia report which showed that 84% of international students were satisfied or very satisfied with their study experience and 86% with their living experience in Australia.

In this latest survey, conducted from late 2009 to mid 2010, the top four factors influencing tertiary students’ decision to study in Australia were: quality of teaching (94% of respondents); reputation of the qualification from their chosen education institution (93%); personal safety (92%); and reputation of the institution (91%).

“For almost 60 years Australia has welcomed Indonesian students who enrol in Australian schools, universities and technical colleges seeking quality education. Currently, there are over 17,000 Indonesian students studying in Australia and tens of thousands of Indonesians who have studied at Australian educational institutions, return to make significant contributions to Indonesia,” Mr Moriarty said.

“The relationships they develop during their studies in Australia have played, and continue to play, an important role in strengthening people-to-people links and enduring ties between Australia and Indonesia”, he added.

Australia remains firmly committed to supporting the quality and integrity of its international education sector and maintaining its international reputation as a provider of high quality education at every level.
