Australia Presents Developments in Information and Communication Technology
The Australian Embassy will today hold the first session of Austrade’s Alumni and Education Workshop Series which will focus on the emergence of ‘Cloud Computing’ as a significant new trend in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) arena.
This showcase aims to promote Australia’s unique strengths in ICT and discuss how ‘Cloud Computing’, the latest niche sector in ICT, has the potential to greatly impact the way businesses in Indonesia across all industry sectors operate.
‘Cloud Computing’ is a new computing system that will enable users to only pay for resources or computing capacity actually consumed, providing companies with an effective mechanism to keep costs down over time and maintain a high level of quality service and responsiveness to their customers.
“The workshop today aims to increase business links and relationships between Australia and Indonesia and highlight prominent and successful Australian alumni from the ICT field to further showcase Australia’s excellence in the education sector,” said Australia’s Deputy Head of Mission Paul Robilliard, who will formally open the seminar.
The ICT field is strongly represented across Australian tertiary institutions with a wide variety of courses offering state of the art facilities and infrastructure.
During the workshop attendees will have the opportunity to discuss ‘Cloud Computing’ with highly regarded computing professionals from Australia and Indonesia including Dr Rajkumar Buyya, Melbourne University’s Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering and Director of the Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLODS) Laboratory - who will be addressing participants by Skype; Mr Indra Utoyo, Telkom Indonesia’s IT Director (CIO); and Ms Silvia Rivena Wibowo of PT SunMicroSystems.
Australia’s ICT market is worth nearly A$100 billion and is the fifth largest ICT market in the Asia-Pacific region and the 14th largest in the world.
