Australian Master Cheese Maker Visits Jakarta

Australian master cheese maker Neil Willman is visiting Jakarta this week to introduce a variety of fresh Australian-produced cheeses to Indonesian consumers.

Neil’s visit is hosted by Austrade – Australia’s trade and investment development agency – and Dairy Australia, will include seminars, trade sessions and consumer cheese tastings of top-quality cheeses produced by some of Australia’s finest cheese makers.

Leith Doody, Austrade’s Regional Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner said, “Australia today produces high-quality fresh produce. Consumers in Indonesia are demanding healthy and nutritious food and we are pleased to be able to supply those needs.”

At the launch of the “Australian Cheese Please” program, Mr Doody said, “The quality and diversity of Australian cheese has never been better. Now we can choose from everyday favourites like cheddar, to an ever increasing range of specialist cheese, such as brie, blues and washed rinds.”

Australia is gaining world recognition for the quality of its specialist cheeses, with sales of Australian cheese into ASEAN markets growing steadily over recent years.

Australian cheese is celebrated for its quality, flavour and innovation – a result of best practice cheese making. Australian cheese makers use science and experience to create flavour and character in every cheese they produce.

Neil has worked for over 40 years in the Australian dairy industry and is Australia’s leading cheese educator. He has been a specialist judge for the past 12 years in Australian and international dairy product competitions, and has trained many of Australia’s cheese makers, graders and judges.

Neil will talk about the different types of cheeses, how to present and serve them, cheese pairing with food and wine, and what sets Australian cheese apart from the rest of the world.

The event in Jakarta is one of five similar events in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and the Philippines. To date, there are around 30 Australian dairy/cheese companies present across these five markets.
