Australian Education Showcase
Hundreds of Indonesian students and parents will visit the Australian Education Excellence Showcase taking place across three cities Jakarta, Medan and Surabaya from 10 – 18 June.
Several activities will be held during the showcase including the 4th Australian Alumni Award on Saturday 11 June in Jakarta, Education for the Future Careers workshops for parents and students and targeted secondary schools, as well as Preparing for Post Graduate Studies programs for Indonesian university students.
The showcase will also include the first Australia-Indonesia International Education Symposium which will enable Australian and Indonesian institutions to explore collaborative opportunities.
The symposium will be attended by Indonesian and Australian education officials, as well as representatives of higher education and vocational institutions and industry representatives from both countries.
Presenters at the Symposium include, Prof Dr Fasli Jalal (Vice Minister, Ministry of National Education, Indonesia, Mr Chris Smith (World Bank), Mr. Irwandi Arif, Chief, Association of Indonesian Mining Professionals –PERHAPI, Ms Dewi Irawaty, Association of National Indonesian Nursing, PPNI.
“Australia remains the preferred destination for Indonesians studying abroad due to a number of factors, including its internationally recognised qualifications, its proximity to Indonesia, and its multicultural environment,” said Austrade’s Regional Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, Leith Doody.
In 2010, 18,000 Indonesian students enrolled at various Australian education institutions including 740 Indonesians who are undertaking Australian government scholarship programs.
“Strengthening the people-to-people linkages through deeper engagement in education is an important part of the bilateral relationship between our two countries. This creates opportunities for greater collaboration between Australian and Indonesian education institutions at both secondary and tertiary levels of education,” added Mr Doody.
Education Commissioner, for South East Asia, South Asia and Pacific with The Australian Trade Commission, Peter Mackey, said, “The Australian Education Excellence Showcase will provide a variety of forums in which Indonesian students, parents, and education and industry stakeholders can explore a closer engagement with the Australian Education and Training sector for mutual benefit.”
