Al-Taqwa College reflects modern Australian society

A team led by the Australia Embassy Jakarta Deputy Head of Mission, Dr David Engel, has made a goodwill visit to Al-Taqwa College, Indonesia as part of an “Australia Day” event organised by the Islamic school.

The school, in Citeureup-Sentul, Bogor, is the Indonesian campus of Al-Taqwa College, Australia, an independent Islamic school which educates students from prep to year 12 in Victoria.

“I’d like to congratulate the Al-Taqwa college community for developing this school and offering a quality education, based on the Australian education curriculum,” said David Engel, the Deputy Head of Mission.

“Al-Taqwa College encourages problem-solving skills and critical thinking, skills that stay for life. As an Islamic college I recognise that the richness of the Islamic tradition, values and teachings will also provide an inspiration,” Dr Engel told Al-Taqwa’s students.

Islam is one of the fastest-growing religions in Australia brought to the country by the diverse backgrounds of migrants who settle in Australia from the Middle East, Africa, and the broad Indo-Pacific region, including south and south-east Asia.

Dr Engel said “Australia today is a multicultural nation and Muslim Australians are very much as integral to modern Australian society as all other Australians.”

“The fact that this is the Indonesian campus of an Australian college underscores the nature of modern Australian society today,” said Dr Engel.

Australia and Indonesia are not just neighbours but also friends. Australia’s relationship with Indonesia is a friendly relationship with many shared interests.
