303 Indonesians receive Australia Awards Fellowships

The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, is pleased to announce that 303 Indonesians have been selected as Australia Awards Fellows and will receive short-term training and professional development opportunities in Australia.

Australia Awards Fellowships aim to develop leadership, address priority regional development issues, and build partnerships and links between Australian organisations and partner organisations in developing countries.

“I am pleased to see Indonesians are the largest group who have received these global fellowships. These Fellowships demonstrate the Australian Government’s long-term commitment to our neighbours in response to a wide range of development issues,” said Ambassador Moriarty.

This year, Australia Awards Fellowships will provide 1,172 current and emerging leaders and mid-career professionals from 59 developing countries with opportunities for short-term research, study, and professional development opportunities in Australia with Australian organisations.

“This round of Fellowships will build capacity in a variety of sectors across Indonesia including: transport security, improved HIV responses; women leadership and water resource management,” said Ambassador Moriarty.

With over three quarters of fellows from Asia, Australia Awards Fellowships are playing a key role in forging links between Australian organisations and key organisations in Asia, and further afield.

The Australian Government is providing $19.7 million to support this latest round of Australia Awards Fellowships and has invested more than $126 million to support Fellows from developing countries since 2007.

Australian Government also provides long term studying opportunities through the Australia Awards Scholarships which provides opportunities for applicants to study at the Master and PhD level. Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships are currently open until 18 July 2014.
