Indonesia is invited to feast on Australian food and wine experiences
Indonesians who have visited Australia have ranked Australia as their number one destination for food and wine experiences, according to research by Australia’s tourism agency.
Besides Indonesians who have visited Australia, the research by Tourism Australia found that visitors from China, the USA, France, India, Malaysia the UK and South Korea also was ranked Australia as the number one destination for food and wine.
The research found that for people who have not visited Australia, only 26 per cent associate the destination with a good food and wine offering.
In response to these findings, the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) will bring Australia’s food and wine experiences to Indonesia, through a new campaign – Australian Culinary Trails
Australian Culinary Trails has been designed to provide Indonesian consumers with an experience of Australian gourmet and culinary culture. A series of events will be held at different locations in Jakarta that include fine dining, cooking demonstrations and interactive healthy lifestyle talk shows.
Australian Culinary Trails will begin with an exclusive Australian beef dinner on 26 April 2014 at Salt Grill in Jakarta, a restaurant by renowned Australian chef Luke Mangan.
Greg Moriarty, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia said “Australia is blessed by a natural environment and a lifestyle that is often rated the world’s best. It shouldn’t be surprising that Australian food and wine has become one of its greatest assets, with a range and quality of produce on offer that is second to none. Yet for many consumers in Indonesia, and elsewhere in Asia, Australia’s fine produce remains a mystery. “
Austrade Jakarta will run a month-long Australian food and beverage showcase, aimed to further increase general consumer awareness of Australian products’ premium quality, safety and healthy features. The program will be held between 26 April – 01 June 2014, in collaboration with retail outlets and restaurants across Indonesia.
“Australia’s great-tasting, top quality food and beverages come from a beautiful and clean natural environment. Australia’s geography gives a wide range of climates and growing environments from tropical to cool temperate, meaning Australia produces a diverse range of foods across the year. Combining Australian top quality food and beverage with local Indonesian chefs and influences will emphasise the shared passion both our nations enjoy for great tasting, safe food and beverages” said Kym Hewett, Senior Trade Commissioner Austrade Jakarta.
“I think Australia has some of the best, readily available produce in the world; amazing fruit & vegetables throughout all the seasons, an exceptionally high standard of meat produce in particular beef and world class wines.” Celebrity Chef Luke Mangan, owner of Salt Grill Jakarta.
To narrow the perception gap between those who have visited Australia and those who have not Austrade has developed a campaign to bring a little of Australia and its special food and beverage experiences to Indonesia.
“The Australian Culinary Trails events provide a great opportunity to showcase the passion and culinary interests our nations share for food and beverage. I invite you to attend or participate in the various Australian Culinary Trails events and enjoy some of Australia’s diverse, healthy, great tasting, top quality and safe food and wine” said Mr Moriarty
