Australian Ambassador visits Aceh Province
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Greg Moriarty, began an official visit to Aceh today to highlight the province’s strong links with Australia.
During his visit, Ambassador Moriarty paid a courtesy call on Aceh’s Governor Zaini Abdullah. He will then meet village leaders benefiting from Australian support for the Indonesian Government’s community empowerment program (PNPM).
The Ambassador will host a reception involving alumni of the prestigious Australia Awards education scholarships and people from Aceh with personal and professional connections to Australia.
Ambassador Moriarty will also meet the Aceh Investment Board to discuss investment opportunities to boost economic development and employment in the province, especially in agriculture.
“Australia and the province of Aceh share a wide range of commercial, education and people-to-people links,” said Ambassador Moriarty.
“These ties have grown stronger over time and I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit this important province of Indonesia.”
“Australia was at the forefront of international efforts to assist the province of Aceh to rebuild after the 2004 tsunami. I commend the province’s resilience and achievements over the past decade.”
