Australia and Indonesia Continue Youth Exchange

Indonesia and Australia have signed an agreement to ensure the successful program of student and youth exchanges continues.
More than 1000 students and young people have experienced the language and culture of each other’s countries under the program, which has been operating since 1982.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Paul Grigson and Ministry of Youth and Sport Deputy Minister for Empowerment, Dr. Yuni Poerwanti today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue the Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP).

The AIYEP is organised and funded by the Australia Indonesia Institute, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in conjunction with the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Each year 36 young Indonesians and Australians aged between 21 and 25 years participate in the program.

“The AIYEP program provides important opportunities for the younger generations of Indonesia and Australia to appreciate each other’s similarities and differences and promote mutual understanding between our two countries,” Ambassador Grigson said.

This year, Indonesian participants will spend two months in Canberra, and Ulladulla, on the New South Wales south coast from 11 October 2015.
During the program, they will be joined by 18 young Australians and return to Indonesia together on 11 December to spend two months in Pontianak and Sambas, West Kalimantan until February 2016.
