15 August 2017

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson begins his brief visit to Bandung today to meet regional leaders, academics and Australian alumni working in various sectors, including in the digital and creative industries.

The Ambassador will meet Vice Governor of West Java Province, Deddy Mizwar and Bandung Mayor, Ridwan Kamil to discuss ongoing cooperation and strengthening people-to-people links between West Java and Australia.

“Bandung is growing into the creative and digital hub of Indonesia.  It’s good to see Australians and Australian alumni play a role in these developing industries,” Ambassador Grigson said.

Ambassador Grigson will also meet academics at Parahyangan Catholic University which is hosting a number of Australian students who are studying in Indonesia as part of the New Colombo Plan.

Bandung’s great creative talent was recently on display at PopConAsia in Jakarta where local artist Sandy Solihin won the Australian Embassy’s ModCon Digital Arts Competition prize. Mr Solihin, a freelance illustrator, won a professional development trip to Australia for his entry Crocoppuccino Party, with his interpretation of Australia’s unique wildlife and coffee culture.
