Media Release

9 November 2018

The Australian Government has awarded 250 Indonesian postgraduate students full scholarships to study in Australia in 2019.

Australia Awards Scholarships equip recipients with the skills and knowledge to drive economic and social development in Indonesia.

“These scholarships will support the next generation of leaders to make a positive impact in their chosen fields,” Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Gary Quinlan said.

“When scholars graduate, they join a prestigious alumni network that includes leading figures in Indonesian business, government and civil society.”

Five exceptional candidates have received Australia Awards ASEAN Scholarships, a one-off initiative of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to support scholars seeking to build ASEAN’s peace, prosperity and social development. They are Mr Ari Triono, Mr Aditya Arnanda, Mr Rocky Reynaldo, Ms Nindy Silvie and Ms Lathifah Nazaruddin.

Seven outstanding Indonesian scholars already studying in Australia on Australian Government scholarships have also received prizes to support their career development.

Mr Adrianus Hendrawan and Ms Deasy Damayanti Pane have been awarded the Hadi Soesastro Prize for scholars completing doctorates in political economy, international economic relations and development. The prize honours the late Professor Soesastro, a leading Indonesian economist, academic and public intellectual, and a close friend of Australia.

Mr Fransisco Fernando, Mr I Gede Pandu Wirawan, Ms Mersi Katrina Manurung, Ms Sri Ita Alimena and Ms Faza Nabila Syahrul have received the Allison Sudradjat Prize for health, education or development scholars. The prize is named after the late Australian diplomat and humanitarian who was tragically killed in a plane crash in Yogyakarta in 2007.

Australia is the most popular destination for Indonesians studying abroad and has seven universities in the world’s top 100, according to the QS World University Rankings.

Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships open from 1 February to 30 April each year. For further information, visit www.australiaawardsindonesia.org.
