Multi-award winning Australian musician Dan Sultan will join some of Indonesia’s best up-and-coming acts this week when he plays to audiences in three cities across Java. Performing concerts in Yogyakarta, Jakarta and Bandung, the singer-songwriter will bring his powerful voice and distinctive music to Indonesian audiences for the first time.
“Dan Sultan is one of Australia’s finest Indigenous talents, and we are proud to introduce his unique sound to Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Gary Quinlan.
Sultan will visit Indonesia as part of the Australian Embassy’s Australia Connect campaign, which will deepen cultural connections between Australia and Indonesia, highlight Australia’s rich Indigenous history and culture, as well as Australia’s multiculturalism and diversity.
“Australia Connect is all about Australians and Indonesians getting to know each other better, and what better to way to do that than through a medium that unites us across borders, cultures and languages – music.” Mr Quinlan said.
Sultan, who has won four prestigious Australian Recording Industry Association awards, including his latest just last week, will perform alongside popular local acts Pamungkas, Coldiac and Gie.
As part of the visit, Sultan will hold a series of exclusive song writing and composition workshops for musicians and music students in each city.
“I am excited to visit Indonesia for the first time and learn more about its rich cultural history and thriving music scene alongside great talent” Dan Sultan said.
“Music is a powerful way to connect and storytelling through music is a way for us to understand ourselves and each other more. I look forward to being able to share some of my techniques with fellow musicians.”
