The Australian Embassy Jakarta launched an Australian Reading Corner at Jakarta’s Public Library Cikini today.
“I’m delighted to launch the Australian Reading Corner as the first project under the ‘International Book Corner’ program at the Jakarta Public Library Cikini. I hope the establishment of the Australian Reading Corner can strengthen knowledge about cultural diversity,” said the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Ms Penny Williams.
The opening was also marked by a book reading session by award-winning Australian author and illustrator Jasmine Seymour, who will deliver a series of book readings and creative writing masterclasses this week in Jakarta and Surabaya.
Designed in partnership with Jakarta Public Library, the Australian Reading Corner serves as an area for Indonesians young and old to explore a variety of children’s books by Australian authors. Books include ‘Baby Business’ a book written and illustrated by Jasmine Seymour, that tells the story of an indigenous Australian ceremony to welcome a new baby.
Visitors to the library will also be able to read and enjoy information on Australian fashion, architecture, art and tourism.
