An Exhibition of Australia-Indonesia Photojournalism “Bangkit dari Pandemi”

Media Release

31 January 2023

The Australian Embassy is proud to present an exhibition by award winning Australian photojournalist Alex Ellinghausen, in collaboration with the Indonesian photojournalists association (PFI) at Jakarta’s Public Library Cikini, 31 January – 5 February 2023.

“It’s great to have Alex in Jakarta and Surabaya sharing his expertise and knowledge with photojournalists in Indonesia” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM.

“This exhibition shows not only the depth of artistic talent in both our countries, but the value of professional collaboration between creative groups in Australia and Indonesia.”

The exhibition features photographs by Alex Ellinghausen, spanning years of his professional experience as a political photojournalist, and photographs by Indonesian photojournalists – selected by their peers through a competitive process.

While in Indonesia, Alex will also hold a series of workshops in Jakarta and Surabaya with Indonesian photojournalists from print, broadcast, and online media to share experiences and challenges in a fast-changing digital news cycle.

The exhibition will be on show at Jakarta’s Public Library from Tuesday, 31 January until Sunday, 5 February and in Surabaya at the Jawapos building on Thursday, 2 February 2023.

Alex Ellinghausen is a photojournalist for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age Australia and has won multiple photography awards as well as the first photographer to receive the “Federal Parliamentary Australian Press Gallery Journalist of the Year Award”.
