New Australia Awards Short Course for MSME Business Leaders in Creative and Cultural Industries

Media Release

9 February 2023

The Australian Government Australia Awards scholarships program is offering Indonesian students the opportunity to study a short course for creative professionals. The short course is open for up to 25 emerging business leaders of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the creative and cultural sectors from Eastern Indonesia.

“Investing in Australia and Indonesia’s creative and cultural industries not only enhances our economic ties, but also further deepens cultural understanding between Indonesia and Australia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM.

“The course will create opportunities for MSME leaders to visit Australia’s world-class cultural and educational institutions and gain access to leaders in our creative and digital economy sectors.”

This new short course will help MSME business leaders, including women entrepreneurs in Indonesia’s creative and cultural industries, to better engage and integrate with the Australian market, creating opportunities for partnership and increased two-way trade. These goals are all in line with the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA), the work of the IA-CEPA Katalis program, and Partnerships for Recovery.

The creative industries are critical to Australia’s and Indonesia’s economies. On the most recent figures (2017–18), cultural and creative activity contributed around $115.2 billion to Australia’s economy. In 2020, Indonesia’s creative economy contributes to IDR 1,211 trillion to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The participants will spend over two weeks in Australia on a fully funded program to develop strategies to deepen understanding between Australian and Indonesian cultural and creative industry MSMEs.
