Media Release

31 March 2023

To recognise the outstanding contribution of the Australian alumni community in Indonesia, the Australian Embassy Jakarta has opened nominations for the 2023 Australian Alumni Awards.

These Awards are the most distinguished honour given to Australian alumni who have demonstrated achievements at the local, national, or international level.

This year, the Australian Alumni Awards form part of the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of Australian scholarships in Indonesia.

Australia's scholarship program, now called the Australia Awards, is the longest-running foreign scholarships program in Indonesia. For 70 years, Australia has worked in partnership with Indonesia to invest in human capital development, to respond to social and economic development priorities, and to create and maintain enduring ties between Australia and Indonesia.

Today, there are more than 200,000 Australian alumni from diverse backgrounds spread throughout the Indonesian archipelago. They are incredible thinkers, leaders, and decision-makers, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Indonesia.

"Australia is incredibly proud of its alumni in Indonesia. They exemplify the remarkable achievements that are possible with a world-class Australian education and embody the deep connections between our two countries. We recognise and champion their contributions to Indonesia and the world," said Australian Chargé d’Affaires to Indonesia, Steve Scott.

This year's awards will be presented in three categories: Alumni of the Year, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Promoting Women's Empowerment and Social Inclusion.

Alumni and members of the Australian and Indonesian public can nominate alumni of all ages who are current and future leaders, influencers, and change-makers. Nominations close on 9 April 2023 and can be made at: https://oz.link/awards2023.

Past Alumni Awards winners include Najwa Shihab, acclaimed journalist and founder of Narasi TV, Dr Alue Dohong, Indonesia's Vice Minister of Environment and Forestry, and Noni Purnomo, President of the Board of Commissioners of PT Blue Bird Tbk.
