Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Ms Penny Williams PSM last week hosted a roundtable discussion with representatives from across Indonesia’s healthcare sector and leading Australian hearing health organisation, Cochlear.
Bringing together government officials and healthcare experts from Australia and Indonesia, the event provided opportunity to discuss innovations and future partnership opportunities in the hearing device industry in Indonesia.
“Cochlear is one of Australia’s great medical technology success stories, having provided more than 700,000 hearing implants to people around the world to date, including in Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams.
“I’m excited to see Cochlear continue to build partnerships in Indonesia, helping to deliver transformational health innovations to communities across the archipelago,” she said.
A global leader in implantable hearing solutions, Cochlear is responsible for the cochlear implant, also known as the bionic ear. Invented by Australian Professor Graeme Clark in the 1970’s, the bionic ear has been hailed by many as the first major advance in the management of hearing impairment since the introduction of sign language.
Since 2015, Cochlear has worked in partnership with the Kasoem Hearing Center in Indonesia, helping people of all ages gain access to hearing health services.
“Cochlear is proud to have worked with our partner Kasoem in Indonesia for nearly 10 years now, offering people with hearing impairments the opportunity to receive not only a cochlear implant, but ongoing speech and development support and a shared support network via our Centre of Excellence in South Jakarta,” said Cochlear’s President for Asia-Pacific and Latin America, Mr Anthony Bishop.
