Media Release

25 May 2023

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM has welcomed a new education partnership between Australia’s Deakin University and Indonesian institutions, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Islam International Indonesia and National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

The new partnerships, which aim to boost education and research links between Deakin and the leading Indonesian institutions, were marked with the signing of three new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreements this week in Jakarta.

“Deakin is a leading Australian university with a well-established presence in Indonesia. These new agreements further demonstrate Deakin’s commitment to strengthening its education partnerships with Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams.

Australian universities are considered among some of the world’s best, many of which have a long history of cooperation with Indonesia. Australia remains one of the most popular overseas study destinations for Indonesian students, with around 20,000 enrolments each year.

Australia is also Indonesia’s 3rd largest research collaborator. Between 2019-2022, over 4,000 joint publications were made between Australian and Indonesian researchers. Together, both countries have made significant research findings in areas of great importance, including health, agriculture, and environmental science.
