Media Release

26 May 2023

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales (NSW), is undertaking a Vice-Regal Mission to Indonesia to strengthen NSW’s diplomatic, trade and people-to-people links with Indonesia. The visit, from 25–27 May, is Her Excellency’s first official visit to Indonesia as Governor of New South Wales and is focused on Jakarta, which enjoys a sister state relationship with NSW.

During the visit, Governor Beazley will meet with a range of Indonesian government officials, prominent local business leaders, members of the Indonesia Australia Business Council and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, and alumni from New South Wales’ educational institutions. Her Excellency will also open the first New South Wales Education Expo in Jakarta, showcasing the world-class education available to international students in her home state.

“Indonesia and New South Wales share a strong and sincere friendship, and I am pleased to say that it is a friendship that is blossoming,” said Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley, Governor of New South Wales.

“With over half of the Indonesian students in Australia choosing to study in New South Wales and our State’s businesses increasingly looking at growth opportunities in Indonesia these are exciting times. It is a great honour to be engaging with Indonesian officials and leaders in business and education, to listen and learn, and to champion New South Wales,” said Governor Beazley.

“I am delighted to welcome the Governor of New South Wales to Indonesia. For decades, New South Wales and Indonesia have enjoyed close partnerships in trade, investment and education. Governor Beazley’s visit is an opportunity to explore new partnerships in rapid growth sectors such as digital, fintech and health. I look forward to seeing the relationship continue to grow,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM.
